Mr. Russard's class is preparing for a class photo, although Alfred has a cold following a chill he caught from a big storm last night. It's then they realize that Camille and Cynthia aren't there yet, only for the duo to show up. Mr. Russard remarks that if they didn't want to be in the picture they should have said something. This confuses Camille, until she realizes that she and Cynthia are blue. Concerned, Mr. Russard doesn't think they should take the picture like this, but Alfred asks to investigate and find out what happened.

At Hedgequarters, he plucks hair from both girls to study them, placing the strands into a machine. Whatever got in them is plant-based he deduces. He asks Camille what she did yesterday, only for Cynthia to butt in and recall her day. Alfred finds it strange that she didn't notice anything unusual until now, and Camille mentions that she was running late. Both of them bathed recently, and the water was fine. But they both recall picking up a strange smell. Alfred wonders if the water pipes could be damaged, which could have played a role in what happened, and the four break up into two teams.

They check the pipes for Camille's place and Cynthia's, but they don't find anything unusual and regroup. They head to the cistern and Camille wonders how blue dye could have possibly got in there. Rudy shows up just then, and Alfred asks what he was doing. Rudy recalls that he was cleaning Dr. Anna's garden, and he points out that for anything to be put into the cistern, you need a really tall ladder. The investigation hits a dead end and the foursome return to Hedgequarters.

For once, Alfred is beginning to doubt they can solve this mystery. Until Cynthia realizes Milo has a bunch of blue stains on his pants from a leaf that landed on them. Alfred touches it to find out his fingers are blue. They analyze the plant when Camille mentions that the big storm the other day really affected Dr. Anna's garden. Cynthia butts in again, recalling how kind Dr. Anna is. She gave her some medicine for her allergies a while back. Alfred asks about this remedy since she uses plants from her garden, and the four head over to talk to her.

Dr. Anna then brings the group to her garden as she explains the plants she grows are for medicinal purposes. They find Rudy there, and he mentions that he put the leaves into the wheelbarrow. This causes Alfred to determine that the storm must have caused the wheelbarrow to tip over, spilling the leaves into the cistern; only those whose pipes connected to it and bathed recently were affected. They were beginning to ferment, which explains their smell. As long as they clean the leaves out of the cistern everything will be fine soon enough.

The school photo is rescheduled, and within a couple of days Alfred is better. Camille and Cynthia are no longer blue- but they, and Milo caught Alfred's cold. Everyone gets together for the picture, and right when its taken, the trio suddenly sneeze.
