As Alfred and his family, along with Camille and Milo hang out at the beach, Lily suddenly cries out that her fish are missing. Alfred is playing with his friends as she goes on to show their mom, and she sadly runs over to ask Alfred for help; distracting him long enough for him to get hit on the head with the ball. She explains the problem and Milo remarks on how 99 fish are a lot. Lily mentions how she's been visiting them since Spring, and she came very often to see them. Alfred theorizes they might have just died, earning a scolding from Camille after she promises their help in finding them. On top of that, she points out how unlikely it is that all 99 fish could have been eaten or died this quickly.

Alfred agrees that this makes sense and decides to look into it. Milo accidentally causes Lily to cry as Lugu arrives, a frequent visitor of this lake too. Lily describes how her fish looked to him to see if he knows anything, and he agrees to search underwater for them. The foursome wait a couple of hours for him to search entirely, but he isn't able to find the specific fish she mentioned. She starts to panic and Alfred makes this a clue.

With that, Lugu takes off for a nap when they begin to hear croaking. Milo once again accidentally scares Lily and earns Camille's ire. The foursome resume looking for clues when Lily sees some frogs at her feet. She starts playing with them, but this is only a temporary distraction- she's still worried about her fish. Milo promises to make the "fish eating monster" pay if he did eat her fish, raising her spirits. He then proceeds to find something: several small trails on the sand. Alfred takes a photo of this and they head to Hedgequarters to do some reviewing.

They recall how Lugu saw 212 fish in total, but not hers. The second clue would be the chirping sound they heard, which didn't sound like birds. Clue 3 would be the marks in the sand. This suddenly inspires the older trio and the four of them return to the lake, where Alfred reveals that Lily's fish were not fish, but tadpoles. They resemble little fish, but as weeks go by they begin to grow legs and turn into frogs.

Lily is relieved to know her little friends are still alive, and she happily holds Fred -her favorite of the bunch- and thanks them for their help. Suddenly, Fred hops up and another frog lands on Milo's face, causing everyone to laugh as she recognizes him.

Quotes[]

  • Camille: *angry* "Milo is... invaluable to our team because he has the most colorful imagination!"

-----

  • Lilly: "It is all these big words that mean we have to find them!"

Trivia[]

  • This is one of the few times that all 3 of the protagonists knew the answer to the mystery.
  • This episode is one of the only times where Alfred lacked common knowledge and/or jumped to conclusions, something he normally does not do.
    • This was also one of the only times where he was shown to be annoyed by Milo during one instance.
  • Milo breaks the fourth-wall in this episode. While he and Camille are explaining the frogs, he points to the side of the screen where an image of a frog is shown, and says "Looks exactly like that."

Goofs[]

  • As Milo is panicking and stating that soon there won't be any fish left in the lake, Camille's tail is missing.
  • As Lily cheers up after Milo promises to fight off the fish-eating creature, dark spots are visible on/around her hair/quills.
  • Llly was holding a popsicle, and within five seconds as she walks with Camille, it vanished.
  • At one point Milo's muzzle turns pale gray.
  • As Alfred's mom hints at Alfred being able to help Lily, the one side of her sunglasses is missing. It should have been visible, given the way her hair is shaped.
  • As Lily realizes her fish are missing, her bread was partially submerged in the water, but it didn't look wet or soggy when she pulls it up.
  • After Milo accidentally causes Lily to cry, Alfred goes to comfort her. During an image of the beach in this scene, Camille's boots are there. But at the water, where she is, she is wearing them.
  • Milo's sleeves were pulled up, but as soon as he hops onto the rocks they are back down.
  • Alfred gets scolded for trying to tell Lily about the death of her fish, but in a previous episode of the series she appeared to already know about the concept.
  • The Gaumont description claims that Alfred was called when Lily needed to find out what happened to her fish. But as seen in the episode, he was already at the location with her.
