Lily shows everyone her painting and Camille compliments it, saying it's good enough to be entered in the Art Contest. Milo agrees and Alfred offers to go ahead and get the Registration paperwork for Lily's entry. As they leave, Alfred's mother offers to dry the painting for Lily and places it under the shade on a nearby bench.

On location the trio encounter Cynthia, who is running the Registration booth. She mocks them, saying they wouldn't stand a chance if they entered, and when Alfred mentions it was Lily who is entering, she laughs at her. She suggests Lily shouldn't bother, but they remind her that any age is welcome to enter. She reluctantly hands over the papers and they return home, where Lily goes to fetch her painting to show their dad. To her alarm, the painting is missing, and she reveals that a blank sheet was left in its place.

Milo and Camille accuse Cynthia of being the cause, saying she probably stole it to remove competition, but Alfred and his mother disagree. The four head to the Payne household to find her tanning. To clear her of suspicion they ask her some questions, and Cynthia explains that she had a hair appointment from 11:00-11:30. Mrs. Payne come along and confirms this, and the four head back realizing they don't have anything else to go with. They wonder if someone could have stolen the art, indirectly causing Polly to start worrying over her cabbage painting, causing her to hurry and run back home to hide it.

The four begin to look around for clues when Louise comes by to reveal that hearing of an "art thief" has caused everyone to drop out of the contest. They decide to ask some other Gnarlies to see if they know anything or may be involved, starting with Mr. Remy. He was home the whole time though, and didn't hear or see anything strange. They get the same result when they go to visit Chloe, who reveals she is ready in case a thief would show up to steal from her.

At this point they realize their only clue thus far is a blank sheet, and once home, Alfred asks Lily if she can remember anything strange while painting. Lily recalls that her paintbrush was sticky, and they head inside to speak to their mom. Mrs. Hedgehog can't recall anything, other than the water-honey mixture she prepared earlier. She put it down and returned to find it missing.

With this information, Alfred, Camille and Milo return to Hedgequarters to review the clues and find the culprit. Alfred wonders if the person who stole the painting thought it was something special. Camille points out that its possible Lily mistook the water-honey mix as paint, given her brush being sticky, and this leads Alfred to piece together what happened.

Returning to the Hedgehog's house, Alfred explains to his family that Lily mistook the mixture for paint and used it for her painting. This is why her brush was sticky. However, the painting went missing because of the crystals in the honey cooling down, which caused it to turn a creamy color that matched the paper. When heat is exposed to the painting, it reappears.

Realizing what happened and how Lily can still enter, they go to update everyone and the art contest is held. They enter Lily's blank paper and when its her turn, she heats it up so that everyone can see the entry, and she wins first prize for submitting something so unique. Cynthia is very jealous by this and makes a remark, causing Lily to start laughing.
